Midlothian Association of Play (MAP) works to ensure that children in Midlothian can enjoy more and better play opportunities in their communities. It has been providing services since 1996 and is a Registered Charity (no SC025474) and Company Limited by Guarantee (no 240729).
We provide:
• Play practice development for professionals including an annual conference and training on a range of topics
• An annual Playday, open to clubs and families to come and play
• Up to 10 playschemes during school holidays
• Hands-on support and advice to play providers and community projects on topics such as SSSC registration, policies and management
• Projects to develop play in Midlothian
• Advocacy for play in Midlothian
• A resource base, play kits for hire, discounted trips out and competitively priced insurance (all members-only benefits)
We’d love to hear from people and groups that are also working to create or protect play opportunities for children – we might be able to work with you.
MAP is funded through Midlothian Council Community Learning and Development and receives support from Midlothian Childcare and Early Years Partnership. Investment has also been secured from Go Play at Inspiring Scotland.
Funds are also raised through trusts and membership fees.
MAP is governed by a board of 12 directors. The three staff members are:
Josephine Spence (Administrator)
Shirley Neill (Development Manager)
Susan McIntyre (Development Manager)
MAP also employs people on a freelance basis to work on projects or at the holiday playschemes.
